About The Point of Encounter

Building Ecologies of Faith, Justice, and Collaboration

Celebrating Differences, Uniting Communities

The Point of Encounter (POE) is a movement where people of diverse backgrounds, faiths, disciplines, and life experiences come together to co-create a more just and compassionate world. Through volunteerism, social imagination, justice design, and multicultural encounters, POE builds ecologies of collaboration—living networks of solidarity between faith-driven and justice-oriented initiatives.

A Legacy of Service
Since 2005, POE has coordinated volunteer programs that have served thousands of children and strengthened educational institutions in Recife, Paudalho, São Paulo, and Rio de Janeiro. Our teams have provided:

  • Dental and medical care to improve community health
  • Sports and educational programs to foster learning and leadership
  • Computers and technology to bridge the digital divide
  • Music and arts experiences to inspire creativity and expression

These two decades of service have built trust, deepened relationships, and laid the groundwork for the collaborative, systemic change we pursue today.

Recent Impact
In October 2024, POE convened five grassroots social projects from Recife, Pernambuco, for an intensive week-long workshop in design thinking and human-centered design. Participants learned to listen deeply, design with—not for—their communities, and prototype solutions rooted in lived experience.

The outcomes have been transformative:

  • Three projects have advanced from vision to viable plans, co-developed with local stakeholders.
  • Relationships forged in the workshop have matured into a regional support network.
  • A model for cross-cultural volunteer engagement has been piloted and refined.

The Next Phase (September 25–October 4, 2025)
POE is mobilizing a new wave of skilled volunteers to accompany three catalytic projects as they launch their first phase of implementation:

  1. From Page to Stage – Empowering vulnerable children through Brazilian literature, creative writing, and theater performances.
  2. Taste of Faith – A community bakery in Olinda run by women caregivers, creating sustainable income through faith-centered entrepreneurship.
  3. Twenty-One Days to Change Your Life – A holistic health journey for women, integrating wellness, mental health, spirituality, and community support.

Volunteers will serve as consultants, facilitators, and bridge-builders—helping transform seeds of vision into thriving realities.

Why This Matters

  • Builds on 20 years of sustained volunteer engagement in Brazil
  • Strengthens grassroots leadership and local capacity
  • Promotes economic empowerment, educational opportunity, and holistic well-being
  • Creates replicable models for faith and justice collaborations worldwide

We are seeking:
